When Mobile Auto Glass Repair Services May Not Be Ideal For You

When there is a crack or chip in your windshield, getting it filled in in a timely manner is important. This helps to prevent the crack or chip from growing. But if you don't have a lot of time, finding the time to get the repair done can be challenging. This is why many windshield repair companies have begun to offer mobile repairs. They come to your home, your work or even your child's sporting event and make the repair without causing you to put your life on hold. But, while there are many benefits to mobile repairs services, they are not ideal for every situation. Here are a few situations in which mobile repair may not be the best option.

Your Windshield May Need to Be Replaced

In some cases, a crack is so large that it cannot be repaired. If the crack on your windshield cannot be concealed under a dollar bill, or it is really close, your windshield may need to be replaced, not repaired. If your windshield needs to be replaced, a mobile service cannot assist with this. In this case, you need to take your car to a glass repair shop. They have the tools there to cut the new glass down to size and adhere the new windshield into place. Mobile repair services don't have these tools on hand.

Some Insurance Companies Will Not Pay For Mobile Repairs

Another reason why mobile auto glass repair may not be ideal for you is because some insurance companies will not pay for mobile repairs. Mobile repairs may cost more, due the convenience of the repair company coming to you. If your auto insurance policy covers windshield repairs or replacement, they likely won't pay extra for the added convenience of someone coming to you. Always check with your insurance company before scheduling an appointment with a mobile repair company.

It Is Going to Rain or Snow and You Don't Have Access to a Dry Space

The last situation in which mobile repair services may not be best for you is if it is going to be raining or snowing and you don't have access to a dry space. A windshield repair needs to be done in a dry area to ensure the resin can harden properly. If it is raining or snowing out, your car needs to be under a carport or in a garage. If you don't have access to either, you are better off bringing your car to the auto glass repair shop, where they can perform the repair in their garage.

Mobile repairs can be beneficial under the right circumstances. But, if there is a chance the windshield will need to be replaced, if you are going through your insurance company or if you it may be raining and you do not have cover, mobile repair services are likely not right for you. In these situations, bringing your car into the auto glass repair shop is the best option for you.
