4 Seasonal Ways To Take Care Of Your Vehicle

At least once every season, four times a year, you need to make sure that you take some time to pay attention to the little details on your vehicle. It is smart to make sure that your vehicle is working properly, which requires looking at the little details that often get overlooked. This might include replacing the wiper blades, checking the lights, inspecting the battery, and detailing the inside of your car.

Replace Your Wiper Blades

Your wiper blades should be replaced a couple of times a year. Over time, as your wiper blades get worn down, they will not work as effectively as they once did. As you head into the wet fall and winter season, you want to make sure that you have wiper blades that will allow you to see when you are driving down a wet road. You don't want to not be able to see during a downpour.

Checking Your Lights

It is easy to simply assume that your lights are working. However, you should check all of the lights on your vehicle. This often works best if you work together with someone else and have one of you operate the lights inside of the car while one walks around outside. This can also work better when done during darker hours; it can be hard to tell if your lights are functioning properly in the middle of the day.

When you check your lights, you want to check all of your lights, including: headlights, taillights, parking lights, emergency flashers, and brake lights. Make sure all of these lights are working, and replace any that are burned out or really dull.

Check Your Battery

Next, you should inspect your battery. Open up the hood of your car and look for corrosion on your battery. If your battery is really corroded or if the cables are really loose, you are going to need to change out your battery. You should also check how charged your battery is. Over time, your battery will lose the ability to hold a charge. You want your battery to be able to hold at least 50% charge at all times. If your battery is not holding much of a charge, you will need to replace it soon.

Detailing Your Car

At least once a year, you should detail your car. You don't have to take your vehicle to a professional to have it detailed; however, you should detail it yourself. Vacuum the inside of your car. Be sure to vacuum under the seats and under the floor mats. Take your floor mats out and clean them with soap and water. Wipe down all the fixtures and storage areas. Clean the inside of your windows. Detailing your vehicle on a seasonal basis will help your vehicle feel cleaner and more enjoyable to drive.

At the start of each new season, check your wiper blades and see if they need to be replaced. Make sure all of your lights are working and check on the condition of your battery. Then, spend some time cleaning up the inside of the car. Cleaning the inside of your car helps ensure that your car ages well. If you need help with any of the above actions, take your car into a local service center for help.
